A case of herniated thoracic intervertebrad disc was presented and the literature was reviewed. A 25 years old female who suffered from sudden oilset of paraparesis and right hypogastrio pain following low back pain of five year¢¥s duration was admitted to this hospital in 1962. The neurological examination revealedspastic paresis of both legs without sensory change, urinary retention, positive both knee & anele clonus and positive Babinsky reflex in the both sides. The myelogram showed a total obstruction of subarachnoidspace at the level of 11-l2th thoracic vertebra.
On operation, a mass of nucleus pulposus, measuring3¡¿1¡¿0.3 cm., weighing 0.S gm., was removed as one piece at the same level.
The neurological deficits of the patient improved almost completely following operation and now she is even able to run.
